Severe acute pancreatitis complicating with pancreatic encephalopathy in an adolescent girl

Pancreatic encephalopathy is a rare and under diagnosed complication of acute pancreatitis due to thiamine (vitamin B1) deficiency resulting from multiple factors. Pancreatic encephalopathy is a neuropsychiatric condition with variable clinical features. In the setting of acute pancreatitis and presents with neurological symptoms. Here, we present the case of a 12-year-old girl admitted with altered sensorium and neurological deficit during acute pancreatitis. She was treated conservatively for severe acute pancreatitis and with vitamin B12 (thiamine) and discharged home with excellent response.
