Abstract

Hydatid disease is endemic in many parts of the world, especially in developing countries. It is caused by Echinococcus granuloses. The most common site is the liver and lungs. It is very rare in skeletal muscles. Only 6 cases of abdominal wall hydatid cyst have been reported so far, out of which only 1 was in the pediatric age group. We present a case of a 9-year-old boy who presented with a mass in the right iliac fossa that gradually increased in size over 3 months. USG and CT were inconclusive. Intraoperatively, it was divulged as a hydatid cyst. The cyst was excised with good recovery.
