Abstract

Aims and Objectives:

The purpose of study was to determine the effects of covid-19 on managing of type 1 diabetes in resource limited countries.

Methods: Cross-sectional observational study, included all type 1 diabetes patients who were already on regular follow-up in endocrine and diabetes clinic.

Results:

Most of our patients belong to lower & lower middle class. Most of the patients (94%) were monitoring BG for 2 to 4 time daily. Only 6 % were monitoring blood glucose 6 times/day.

Most of the patients had poor glycemic control, during lockdown period as 19% had readings between 300-350mg/dl; 30% between 250-300mg/dl ,40% had values between 200-250mg/dl. While only 9% have less than 200 mg/dl. HbA1C was more than 10% in 92% of patients. Fifty-five cases had no telemedicine access to doctor and 28 parents were having only partial access.

Conclusion:  Lockdown & lack of telemedicine clinic, lead poor monitoring & supply of medicine, which result in poor control & complications like diabetic ketoacidosis.
