Impact Of Maternal Health and Prenatal Care on Global Developmental Delay: A Narrative Review
Impact of Maternal Health and Prenatal Care on GDD
Abstract
This narrative review aims to explore advanced knowledge and information to study the effect of maternal health and prenatal care on global developmental delays. Developmental delay is any delay in the normal development of the child. There are various maternal factors such as maternal depression, nutrition, lack of physical activity, sleep, interpregnancy interval, and maternal infections, which influence fetal health and development. Maternal obesity has also been identified as one of the important risk factors for the fetus and mother and can cause developmental delays in children. The role of speech therapists, physical therapists, and developmental therapies is significant in managing and treating children with global developmental delays. Reviewing these considerations, this narrative review deduced that all maternal factors have a remarkable impact on the development of children. Further, it is recommended by the researchers that pregnant women should provide balanced diet, mental relaxation, and prenatal care to improve the health outcomes of offspring.
