Abstract

Intussusception in children is a common and serious condition, typically characterized by abdominal pain, vomiting and bloody diarrhea. In some cases, Multiple Intussusceptions occur; this entails multiple segments of the intestine becoming affected simultaneously, leading to potentially severe complications. As such, non-operative enema or pneumatic reduction for treatment may be less successful due to difficulty with reducing multiple segments. Early surgical intervention is recommended in order to reduce intussusception as delay could result in gangrene of the gut loops. Appropriate management must be tailored according to the number and location of intussusceptions present for successful reduction; a case example includes a 9-month-old male infant reported with four Colo-colic and one ileo-cecal intussusceptions which was successfully reduced through early intervention.
