Abstract

A 14-years-old girl presented with pain in upper chest and left arm for 3 months associated with shortness of breath and headache. She had cold left upper limb with diminished pulses; and discrepancy of blood pressure in right upper limb as compared to left upper and both lower limbs. Echocardiography revealed left ventricular hypertrophy while CT-Angiography showed narrowing of descending thoracic aorta. She was diagnosed as Takayasu’s arteritis; and angiography revealed severe long-segment coarctation of descending thoracic aorta with obstruction of left common carotid and subclavian arteries. The coarctation of the aorta was successfully stented using a covered stent and patient was managed with steroids and methotrexate. At one-year follow-up; patient has improved symptoms, well-controlled hypertension and a patent stent on CT-angiography.
